Volcanoes Safaris is recognised as a pioneer in luxury gorilla and chimpanzee eco-tourism across Uganda and Rwanda, founded in 1997 by Praveen Moman. Specialising exclusively in experiences centred around Africa’s great ape parks, the brand operates four award-winning boutique lodges: Virunga in Rwanda, and Bwindi, Mount Gahinga, and Kyambura in Uganda - all carefully designed with sensitivity to local culture and aesthetics. Lodges offer panoramic settings, contemporary yet authentic design, exceptional hospitality, and direct access to unique mountain and forest primate encounters.

The guest experience combines expertly guided gorilla and golden monkey trekking with immersive community visits, spa services, birding, and family-friendly activities, all delivered by extensively trained local staff: over 85% of whom come from neighbouring communities. Volcanoes Safaris’ approach is rooted in sustainability, supporting conservation and empowerment through every aspect of its operations.

Central to the company mission is the Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust (VSPT), which oversees long-term projects that restore habitats, support local livelihoods, and foster education, economic development, and environmental stewardship. Each guest contributes to these projects: for example, a portion of every stay supports women’s cooperatives, hospitality training via the renowned Bwindi Bar, and a range of initiatives aimed at reducing human-wildlife conflict and securing the future of endangered great apes.
